Vanguard Self Storage commemorated eight decades since Victory in Europe Day, with a striking tribute placed on its West London facility - a full-scale replica of the iconic Supermarine Spitfire.
Poised proudly atop the building and visible to motorists on the A40, the Spitfire served as a powerful symbol of remembrance and gratitude for those who bravely defended Britain during World War II.
For family-run Vanguard, the display was more than ornamental. With personal ties to the military, showcasing it on top of the West London branch was a way to inspire reflection, remembrance, and pride.
The Spitfire VE Day tribute came from Vanguard’s growing collection of military memorabilia that are stored and displayed across its UK-wide locations.
Each piece has been carefully selected, restored, and showcased to honour the rich legacy of British aviation and military engineering.
Others from the collection include:
- Hawker Hunter WT555 – Suspended in the atrium of Vanguard’s Staples Corner facility, this was the first Hunter delivered to the RAF and presented to HRH Prince Philip in 1953
- English Electric Lightning XP745 – On display in Bristol, this Mach 2-capable interceptor exemplifies Cold War-era innovation
- Mark IV Tank "Edwin" – First installed in 2014 to commemorate WWI’s centenary, this replica regularly returns and features on the West London rooftop
- de Havilland Vampire Jet WZ450 – The most recent addition, this jet now hangs at the newest Bath branch following its careful restoration.
Whether you’re a military enthusiast or simply appreciate a glimpse into Britain’s past, Vanguard welcomes visitors to its branches to experience the collection.
